TRICARE For Life path
TRICARE For Life works as a second payer after Medicare. To keep it, you generally need both Part A and Part B. Many people on this path do not need a separate Medicare plan, but it is worth checking drug coverage and timing before you turn 65.
Already on Medicare, compare the gaps
You have Part B, so the big question is what sits next to it. Some veterans add a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan to cover care outside the VA. Others keep Original Medicare on its own. We can look at what you have and what it leaves out.
VA plus Part B safety net
You use some care outside the VA, or you may want to. Part B is what covers doctor visits and outpatient care away from the VA, and signing up late can mean a penalty that lasts. It makes sense to talk through Part B before your window closes.
VA only, know the gaps
The VA covers most of your care today. That can work well. The gaps to know about are care outside the VA (like a non-VA emergency room), routine dental, hearing aids for many veterans, and coverage for a spouse. It also helps to know how the Part B late penalty works, in case your needs change.
