Read the letter, then call us
Insurance companies send a letter when a plan will not be offered in your area next year. The letter tells you the plan’s last day. Keep it, and bring it to your call with us.
You have more time than you might think
When your plan is not renewing, Medicare gives you a special enrollment period. It starts December 8 and runs through the last day of February. You can also choose a new plan right now, during Annual Enrollment (October 15 to December 7).
| If you choose a new plan in | Your new plan usually starts |
|---|---|
| December 8 to December 31 | January 1 |
| January | February 1 |
| February | March 1 |
Choosing in December means no gap. Waiting is allowed, but your old plan may already have ended, so it is best to talk with us early.
What we check for you
- Which plans take your doctors and your hospital
- How your medicines are covered and at which pharmacy
- Whether a Medicare Supplement is an option for you
When a Medicare Advantage plan leaves your area, you may also have the right to buy certain Medicare Supplement plans without health questions. Your letter explains this right. We will go over it with you.

Questions people ask us
Is December 31 my deadline?
No. December 31 is only the last day to choose a plan that starts January 1. If your plan is ending, your special window usually runs through the end of February.
What happens if I do nothing?
If your Medicare Advantage plan ends and you do not pick a new one, you usually go back to Original Medicare. You may be left without drug coverage, so it is worth a call.
Does it cost anything to have you help?
No. Our help is free, and the price of a plan is the same with or without us.
