Belton Regional Medical Center and Medicare Plans

If you live in Belton, Raymore, Peculiar or the south end of Grandview, Belton Regional Medical Center is probably the hospital you think of first. It is close, it has an emergency room, and many local doctors admit there. The question we get is simple: “Does my Medicare plan work at Belton Regional?” The answer depends on which kind of Medicare you have.

The hospital most of Belton already knows

Belton Regional Medical Center sits at 17065 S US Highway 71, where Highway 71 meets Highway 58. HCA Midwest Health, which runs the hospital, describes it as a 71-bed acute care hospital with inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, surgery, oncology and women’s care. It holds Level III trauma and stroke designations. Its stated mission is to serve southern Jackson and northern Cass counties.

Belton Regional is one of the hospitals in the HCA Midwest Health system. That system also includes Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence and Lee’s Summit Medical Center, among others. This matters for Medicare Advantage. Insurance contracts are usually made with the whole system, not one building.

Original Medicare: no network to worry about

If you have Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), with or without a Medicare Supplement, there is no network. You can use any hospital in the country that accepts Medicare, and nearly all do, including Belton Regional. Your Supplement pays its share no matter which hospital you choose. Nothing about this changes from year to year.

Medicare Advantage: it depends on the contract

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, the plan pays its in-network rates only at hospitals that have a current contract with that plan. HCA Midwest Health and each insurance company negotiate those contracts, and they can change every year.

So “Does Belton Regional take Medicare Advantage?” is not quite the right question. The right question is: “Does Belton Regional have a 2027 contract with my specific plan?” The answer can be yes for one company’s HMO and no for the same company’s PPO. It can be yes this year and no next year.

We do not list which plans Belton Regional accepts on this page, because any list we published would go stale. Networks change every year, and we check them for you.

Why this matters more than it used to

Kansas City has had several hospital and insurer contract changes in a short time. NKC Health, on the north side of the metro, reports that it went out of network with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans in 2026 after ending its Cigna Medicare Advantage contract at the start of the year. Saint Luke’s has announced a change with Aetna Medicare Advantage for 2027. None of these involve Belton Regional directly. They are reminders that a contract is a one-year agreement, and that a hospital you used last year under a plan is not proof it works this year.

What to confirm, and when

Here is a simple yearly routine for anyone on Medicare Advantage who uses Belton Regional or any HCA Midwest hospital.

What to checkHowWhen
Belton Regional is in your plan’s network for next yearPlan’s provider directory for the coming year, or call the planOctober, before December 7
Your own doctors are in networkSame directory; check each doctor by nameOctober
Your plan type (HMO, PPO, group)Your member card and Annual Notice of ChangeSeptember
Any letter from the hospital or plan about network changesRead it; do not set it asideAny time it arrives

If a hospital leaves your network, Medicare’s Open Enrollment (October 15 to December 7) is your main chance to switch plans for the coming year. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you also get one more chance from January 1 to March 31 to switch or return to Original Medicare. Some network changes trigger a Special Enrollment Period, but that is decided case by case.

The question behind the question

Most people asking about Belton Regional are really asking one thing. “If something goes wrong, will the hospital near my home take care of me, without a fight over the bill?” That is a fair question, and it is the one we try to answer.

With Original Medicare and a Supplement, the answer is yes, at Belton Regional and anywhere else. With Medicare Advantage, the answer is yes as long as the contract holds, and you check it every fall. Both are reasonable choices. The mistake is choosing Advantage and never checking again.

Emergency care, by the way, is covered at any hospital under either kind of plan. Network rules do not apply to a true emergency.
